#RedWednesday INITIATIVE - 22 NOVEMBER 2017

Make a stand for Faith and Freedom. This year we are supporting this initiative, which is jointly sponsored by Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) and Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW). The campaign is designed to bring together Christians and other faith communities in the UK in a united vision of religious belief which: UPHOLDS the rights of individuals to follow their faith and conscience without coercion or reprisals; PROMOTES respect and tolerance of other religious traditions; CONDEMNS acts of violence carried out in the name of religion or by regimes against religion; COMMITS to helping victims of persecution.

On Saturday, 4 November 2017, Bishop James launched the new 'shared vision and strategic framework' for the Diocese of Rochester.  Bishop James prays:

God the Creator of all, grow your church in faith;  God the Son who saves the world, enrich us with your presence; God the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, resource us for your mission and ministry; that we may be a blessing throughout and beyond this Diocese, for we are called together to proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

You can download a booklet by clicking here.  Alternatively further details, including some video clips, can be found on the Diocesan website:  http://www.rochester.anglican.org/strategy/called-together/

Preparations are now in-hand for this year's Christmas Tree Festival.  The Festival will take place at St Mary's Church, Riverhead, on Saturday and Sunday, 9 and 10 December 2017. Invitations have been sent out to previous participants, but any clubs, school groups, families, individuals, charities and businesses are all welcome to display a tree which could depict their organisation or hobby, especially where it serves people in our Parish community of Riverhead and Dunton Green.  This link provides further details.  Our Photo Gallery also includes folders of photographs from all our festivals, since its inception in 2011.

As in previous years, we are participating in the Samaritan's Purse's 'Operation Christmas Child' initiative.  Everyone is invited to fill a shoebox with gifts suitable for needy children around the world.  There are leaflets and empty boxes at the back of the Church.  Further details can also be found at: www.samaritans-purse.org.uk. Boxes should be returned to Church during November please. DH

A document has been received with suggestions for 'Advent Blessings' this year. If you wish, you can make donations to the Mothers' Union.

Also, the publication Faith & Policy Watch (F&PW) is back again.  The November 2017 edition has just been received.  KF-P

The meetings for the next session are 9th, 16th, 30th Oct, 13th, 27th Nov, 4th Dec. We usually meet every other Monday in the Lady Chapel, 10:00am for 10:15am. Please check with Daphne or Ronnie if you are interested in joining us. You will be made very welcome and hopefully enjoy the meeting. We are studying the Acts of the Apostles during this session.  Ronnie/Daphne

Following consultation with Church members, the PCC decided to support the following charities this year:  Kent Surrey Sussex Air Ambulance, Porchlight, Sevenoaks Christian Counselling, as well as Rochester Diocese Povery & Hope Appeal.  As usual, the intention will be to invite representatives to 9:30am Sunday services, spread throughout the year, and to have retiring collections.

The second was the Rochester Diocese Poverty & Hope Appeal 2017.  On Sunday, 15 October 2017, Martyn Berry spoke about the projects being supported by this year's appeal - "Give today and bring hope to your neighbours across the world".  Leaflets and envelopes for donations are available at the back of the Church and the latter can be returned via the Church.

You may have seen this sign, near the bottom of the main steps that lead from the main road up to the Church.  Read more about it by selecting via the main menu: 'Other Information / Grave Locator / War Graves'.
