TESCOS 'BAGS OF HELP' AWARD TO ST MARY'S

Having been awarded a sum of money from the Tescos' 'Bags of Help' scheme (money raised by the sale of 5p plastic bags and the allocation voted on by customers), we are now beginning to see signs in the Churchyard of work being carried out by volunteers from the North West Kent Countryside Partnership. Over the coming weeks they will, amongst other things, be trimming trees, clearing away ivy and brambles and building a living hedge, all this to encourage bio-diversity in the wildlife, and to help to make our Churchyard and surrounds more attractive. The area in front of the Church Hall is already showing signs of attention. Soon other areas will get similar treatment. They will also be building bird and bat boxes, planting wildflower plugs and bulbs, as well as a great deal more strategic clearing and tidying. They will be with us on several Thursdays so do keep an eye open for these industrious folk!  Diane Williams
