Pray to Celebrate Difference

A message from the Children's Society

Children's SocietyIn October we celebrate Black History month. It is a chance to shine a light on our shared British history and tell stories from the perspective of all people and pray for those who experience bullying and racism because of their race, ethnicity or national origin.

The Children’s Society believes every child should have the chance to be safe, happy and achieve their dreams regardless of their parent’s immigration status. Our services across the UK give young refugees and migrants opportunities to recover, meet people and start enjoying life in a new country. We pray especially for those who have recently arrived from Afghanistan.

As half term is nearly upon us, we remember that in our Good Childhood report this year young people are more unhappy with school than many other aspects of their lives. Sunday 10 October marks World Mental Health Day, and we are reminded that one in six children are likely to have a mental health condition, 75% of those with a mental health condition are not being treated. Tom, one of our young people we have worked with, shared 'I feel like inside someone’s head they’re probably, like, laughing at me. So that’s why I don’t really open up to someone.'

Our prayers this month have been written by the Reverend Canon Terrie Robinson who is a Priest in the Diocese of Oxford and an Honorary Canon of Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford.

Pray with us

Thank you, as ever, for supporting our work in prayer.
